Create Schedule
Once you have created your new account or are logged in to your existing online account:
- On the home screen, tap on "Create Schedule".
- Choose your Reading Selection.
- Select your desired Reading Schedule, and your schedule has been created.
If you choose to create a Custom Schedule:
- Enter an alternate Starting Point and Ending Point (optional). (If no starting or ending points are entered, your schedule will automatically start at the beginning and continue to the end of the selected book.)
- Enter the number of days you wish to complete this reading in.
- Tap "Submit"
Your newly created, or existing schedules will be immediately available in "My Schedules", with an audio link included. Create only one schedule per book.
When you have completed your daily scheduled reading, tap on the "Completed" button at the bottom to track your progress. Your next reading assignment will be available in "My Schedules" and will be emailed to you the following day. If you do not wish to receive your scheduled reading as an email the following day, you can turn off Daily Scripture Emails in your Settings.
Syncing with your Online Account
Any account created on the Read the Scriptures iPhone app, automatically creates a simultaneous account online at Read the Scriptures as well. The account information - schedules, notes, highlights and favorites - is synchronized and backed-up between the two platforms. The account login information you use for the app is the same required at Read the Scriptures. Login to your online account to create schedules, make schedule changes, or use additional features not available on the app (not yet, at least).
If this is a new account you have created in the app, all of your schedules, notes, highlights, and favorites are stored to our server in case you ever need to restore your data to your device. Simply login to your account again on your phone, and your information will be there.
Currently, the app only supports our reading schedules for the individual five books of LDS scripture. The Standard Works, Sunday School, Ensign or any other schedules offered on the website are not supported on the iPhone. However, these additional schedules will be offered as a free update in the near future.
Fonts and Settings
Several options are available to modify the font size, style, and alignment, and to modify the content viewing format. From the home page, or on any open screen, tap on the Settings button in the bottom menu.
Notes
Append your own thoughts to a verse by adding your own personalized notes. To add a note, tap on the verse number. A popup menu will appear showing the available options. Tap "Add Note" for a text box to open below the verse. Tap in the text box for the keyboard to appear. Tap "Done" once you are finished entering your note. Your note will appear below the verse it has been added to. When you add a note, the color of the verse number will change to let you know that a note exists for that verse.
To turn inline notes off, tap on the Settings button on the bottom right menu, or the Settings from the home page. The settings options also allow you to view the notes in a different font or color.
To edit a note, tap on the verse number again to open the menu, then tap on "Edit Note", or simply tap on the note itself. If the note you have added exceeds the text box viewing area, use a 2 finger scroll method to navigate to the bottom of the note: tap and hold one finger on the note, then scroll with a second finger.
From the home page, tap on "My Notes" to view a list of all the verses you've added notes to within each book. You can sort your notes by scripture index or date the note was created.
To delete a note, tap on the verse number and select "Delete Note" from the menu.
You can also delete a note from a verse by using the Edit button on the top right corner of the Note list page.
Highlighting
To add highlighting to a verse of importance, tap on the verse number. A popup menu will appear showing the available highlight colors. Simply tap one of the colors to immediately highlight that verse in the selected color. The next time you read that verse, it will be highlighted, whether in the scheduled reading, the scripture reading, or through your online account.
From the home page, tap on "My Highlights" to view a list of all the verses you've added highlighting to within each book. You can sort the list by scripture index or color.
You can remove a highlight by tapping on the verse number of the highlighted verse to open the menu box. Select "Remove Highlighting".
You can also remove highlighting from a verse by using the Edit button on the top right corner of your highlighting list page.
Favorites
To add a verse to your list of favorites, tap on the verse number. A popup menu will appear showing the available options. Simply tap on "Add to Favorites" and that verse will be added to your favorites list.
From the home page, tap on "My Favorites" to view a list of all the verses you've added to your favorites within each book.
You can remove a favorite by tapping on the verse number of that verse to open the menu box. Select "Remove Favorite".
You can also remove favorites from your list by using the Edit button on the top right corner of the favorites list page.
Quotes
At the bottom of each scheduled reading assignment, there will be a randomized quote from an LDS leader. You can email the quote to a friend by tapping on the email icon at the bottom of the quote. This will open the quote in an email, then enter the email address you wish to send it to.
Use the Search feature to quickly find matches to a word or phrase within the scriptures, quotes, and your notes. Tap on the listed references to view your term with highlighted results.
Reading Reminders
Reading reminders uses Apple's Notification capability to send alerts or badge notifications to your device, even when the app isn't open. This feature serves as a schedule reminder to help you keep on track. You will also get an alert to remind you when your schedule has been inactive for a certain period of time. You can change these settings at anytime from your iPhone Settings -> Notifications. Here you can also turn off Alerts, Sounds and Badges individually.
