The Prophet Joseph Smith referred to this book of scripture as "the foundation of the Church in these last days, and a benefit to the world, showing that the keys of the mysteries of the kingdom of the Savior are again entrusted to man" (heading to D&C 70). The revelations in this book are interwoven with the history of the Church, coming "in answer to prayer, in times of need, and ...out of real-life situations involving real people" (Explanatory Introduction).

Referring to the revelations recorded in the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord said, "Search these commandments, for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled" (D&C 1:37). As you study the Doctrine and Covenants and Church history in Gospel Doctrine class and in your families this year, you have the opportunity to learn of commandments, prophecies, and promises that will help you draw nearer to the Lord.

The Doctrine and Covenants weekly reading assignments are now available for the 2009 Gospel Doctrine class. Please remember to track the emails that are sent to you, in order to correlate your reading with Stake Conference and General Conference weeks.

Available as downloadable text, audio, and video, these colorfully illustrated stories from the scriptures are written on a basic reading level for children. They are also a valuable resource for others who may not yet be familiar with the standard works.

The January issue of both the Ensign and the New Era are now available.
