Why Isn't Our App Free?

We've had a few opinions expressed that since the iPhone application is for reading the scriptures, and that our website services are offered free, this application should also be free. Our explanation:

• Our application is a platform to read the scriptures on your mobile device, it is not the scriptures themselves.
• We have expenses - we're real people too (read about us). No one enjoys working full-time for free.
• Based on the service and functionality of this app, we have determined that our price is a fair market value for this product.
• At any bookstore, you purchase print scriptures and General Authorities' books - even these are not free.
• With this one-time purchase of our iPhone app, we are motivated to improve, support, and maintain all of our Read the Scriptures services for years to come.

We have offered our Read the Scriptures website service for over 5 years for free. Over this time, we have spent many hours in development, design, programming, maintenance and upgrading. In addition there are the server/hosting and domain expenses, all for which there has been no cost to our users. We have enjoyed offering this service and we intend to continue providing and upgrading this online service for many years to come. We gratefully appreciate the generosity of some individuals who have offered donations over this time.

Now we have branched into the mobile world, and we again have spent many hours in development and testing of our iPhone app. We do charge to download the app to your phone, which will include many additional features, upgrades and enhancements - all of which will be offered as continuing free updates. This means your purchase just gets better with time.
